I'd rather pay and get upgrades than have the developer abandon the app because it isn't profitable to do anymore free updates. What should Loren do when everyone that will buy Tweetie already has it? Develop updates out of the goodness of his heart?
The app store has a problem, and that's the amount of crap and cheapness of that crap. It drives the price of everything down. Factor in that ALL upgrades are free and you have a major problem for devs. You can sell an app once to each user, at next to nothing cost, and that's all you get. Yes, initially it's good when you're selling 100K apps a week but what happens when everyone's bought your app? The app store has a sustainability problem, and it will soon rear it's ugly head.
Compare it to desktop software where even the most basic apps cost $10+ and all upgrades are paid.
I'm quite happy to pay Loren �1.79 every 8-12 months for his work on Tweetie because frankly it's amazing and �1.79 is pretty much nothing.
The problem with most whambulance drivers such as yourself is pretty much the same problem with society at large. You only care about yourself and what you can get for yourself regardless if it's at the expense of others. You have no social responsibility. People's inability to look past their own nose and care about others is really quite pathetic. You don't care if Loren gets paid for his work, or for a sustainable app store. I want to add an mp3 file into my project. It adds fine, however it stops playing after about ten seconds. Garage band shows that the whole file is still there, but it is limited to the first ten seconds.
Please help this is quiet frustrating.

I was debating on doing the 4.3.1 update now that the jailbreak is available. Is this a bad call? It seems many are unhappy they updated their software. I am currently on 4.2.1. Any thoughts?

I think some people here think this is suddenly going to allow us to drag an image from our desktop to the .Mac mail page, and attach it to a new message. That isn't what they are describing as "drag and drop". They are talking about moving messages around in the web browser window.
I feared as much, still being able to select multiple files in one time to attach would be enough for me, or just wait to upload until you are done

Ok so ive just discovered the joys of Geektools today so ive been playing around with that. Got 3 variations running the same scripts but with different wallpapers.....
All very Apple based as you can probably tell! Think I prefer the first one!!

It's probably possible, but you'd need to write the game yourself. Also, the mouse wouldn't be able to control the computer, so the game should be able to respecify mouse button actions and controls. It also needs to be optimized for the magic mouse. I'm not sure if the mouse differentiates from the top and bottom of the mouse for expose, but if it does, it will work flawlessly. Its just a matter of finding or writing a game that uses the magic mouse controls differently to control the game.

Currently, the iPod nano (2010 version, or 6th generation) cannot playback video on its touchscreen. Attempts to play mp4 or m4v files will only output the audio track, not the video.
Some are hoping that Apple will come up with a firmware update to allow video to show on the screen, but until then, no.

FCP is dieing. It lags well behind the other software and the killing of the xServer just adds more to it.
Killing off the Xserver will only cause a tiny ripple in the sea of 1.5 million registered FCP users, IMO. The low and medium ends of the market, where FCP dominates, don't need, and can't afford, enterprise level gear like that. And for companies that do need large amounts of fast storage to be shared between a number of bays there are non-Apple alternatives. I'm not saying that there are not companies that went "Oh, ***" when they heard the news I'm just saying I think those companies make up a very small segment of FCP users.

Apple is going to (probably already has) develop its own map data. Map data is a strategic resource and is increasingly used for competitive advantage.
At the moment, there are two leaders in high quality map data, Navteq and TeleAtlas. There are some smaller players with much lower quality and/or much more limited coverage but these two have mostly locked up the market for the last 10 years or more.
Navteq is owned by Nokia. Before they were bought by Nokia, Navteq pretty freely licensed their map data (for a huge price) and owned the navigation device market. In the last few years, they have been cutting off access to any company that they see as competing with either Navteq or its parent company Nokia in areas they want to own.
TeleAtlas is owned by TomTom. They are much more open to licensing their data but with the major restriction that their data can't be used for turn by turn navigation.
Google was licensing TeleAtlas data until fall 2009. At that point, they had developed their own data set (by driving the roads) enough that they could use it in Android. A month later, Maps 2 came out with turn by turn directions because Google was no longer restricted in their map use. The quality of the maps was and still is lower than the TeleAtlas data but Google owns it.
Google, too, is using its map data for its own competitive purposes. They won't license it for general use, only for use within Google products or add-ons.
Apple needs map data and is either going to have to buy it or create it themselves. It's possible that Apple could buy TomTom. They're only a $2Billion market cap so it's quite doable. Other than that, there is no map data set that Apple can rely on having access to.

No light sounds like it isn't getting any power. Are you sure it is plugged in to the power at the wall?
Have you tried another cable or USB port?
Does it make any noise at all? Can you hear the drive spinning up, or is there any clicking noise, etc?

i initilized my drive and cleaned everything off including the os. when i startup, the lilttle mac folder comes up and blinks a question mark. when i put in my os 9 cd it attempts to boot. most of the time, it just doesn't work. others, it will start to load stuff, then just freezes. i am starting to think that my disk is flawed. what do you think? what should i do?
